“Sappho Could’ve Bathed Here”
Written for Muddled Muse Theatre Company
A theatre and community project to fight loneliness and the under-representation of queer women, trans and non-binary characters through Sappho’s poetry, magical-realism and quick-witted comedy.
Inspired by our need to represent Sapphic communities beyond the realms of sexualisation and fetishization, we intend to expose queer joy as a radical act against the tragic queer narrative, exploring the power of queer friendship and platonic intimacy, in a silly, sitcom-esque format!
A slice-of-life yet surreal portrayal of a diverse, chaotic, young-adult sapphic friendship group who unwind, heal, overcome, reflect and recharge together inside the shared bathroom of their grotty flat, a space where strife can be left on the bathmat…

The project has had a staged readthrough at Front Room Theatre Weston-super-Mare (November 2025).
It has now received funding from Art’s Council England to R&D the script’s collaboration with magical-realism and movement (happening September 2026).
Set atop the crumbling cliff-sides of the Jurassic coast, “Dregs” explores the complex nature of infertility and climate grief, and the lies, myths and stories we tell ourselves to keep our hopes alive.
Anchored by the very real circumstance of a house falling into the sea, and the ancient folklore of seaside selkies, this play follows an intimate story of two sisters privately grieving their futures - two sides of the same coin. As tragedy and tall tales drive them apart, and together, “Dregs” begs the questions of what we should give up on, what we should let go of, and what should we grasp onto with both fists.

This play began its journey as part of the MA Writing course at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
